Giving Back

Changing the World One Dinner at a Time

This profound idea of a Giving Circle to change the lives of people in extreme poverty captivated and moved me into action to make a difference. In July of 2007 Cari Class started a local chapter of Dining for Women. Since then, two additional chapters have been launched in Santa Cruz county, all united by the first group. DFW focuses on empowering women and girls living in extreme poverty in impoverished countries by funding grassroots programs that foster access to healthcare, education and economic self-sufficiency. Our educational dinner circles inspire individuals to broaden their global awareness, learn about gender inequities and create lasting social change though the power of collective giving.

We invite you to share in this life changing group. Bring a pot luck dish to share. We "dine in" together once a month, the money we would have spent "dining out" is donated to the organizations Dining for Women has carefully researched and found to be effective, reputable charities. We often fund smaller organizations who would not typically attract large scale funding. Through our collective donations with other chapters throughout the US and beyond, we make a significant impact in the lives of women and their families around the world through the non-profits who offer them a hand-up, not a hand-out. No contribution is too small.

Why does Dining for Women focus on women as the recipient of funds and resources? Research confirms that women will use new income and resources for the immediate benefit of their children and families. The first thing a woman will do when she has access to income is ensure her children are fed and that they attend school. By putting powerful resources -- such as knowledge and financial services directly into the hands and minds of women, we can help the entire family.

We are doing something good for the world while enriching ourselves in the process. It's a way to make meaningful connections with other like-minded women in our community, with a ripple effect to women globally. It's a win/win monthly event!

Bring something good to eat or drink and join us!

We are very excited to announce that Dining for Women founder, Marsha Wallace will be joining us from South Carolina for our April monthly meeting! In honor of our esteemed guest, we are departing from our tradition of meeting in a home and have chosen a larger venue this month to accommodate all women who would like to attend. We found the Scouthouse at Harvey West Park to be suitable. It is rustic, quaint and cozy. We look forward to seeing you there!
